Spirit Communication And Protection

Iam wondering if there is anything I have missed or anything of importance I should know of or practice when it comes to communicating and connecting with other energies. I often experience communication with other energies even when I don't intend to, I have been trying to work on opening and closing properly so I choose when I speak with them, but sometimes they are strong and come through anyway insisting on talking and asking for help much of the time because not many can see or hear them and they are confused or don't understand their state of being, or are sometimes stuck in this world or between. Like in real life (sorry can't think of a better way to phrase it), some are bad some are good, some pretend to be nice but are actually bad. I am good at reading energy whether it is from living people or spirits, but my concern is I will end up coming into contact with a spirit that is not good and I will not be able to fix my own situation or be rid of it. I would maybe like to get advice on raising my vibrational level to keep said entities away or from being able to attach to me. Any suggestions are much appreciated.
